  11.     Thank you for your interest in the New York Text Editor. Actually,
  12. the  real  name  of  this  program is ME (short for Macro Editor), but
  13. since many people are already familiar with  my  NEW  YORK  WORD  word
  14. processor,  I  decided  to  give  a  familiar moniker to the shareware
  15. version of the editor.
  16.                                   
  17.     This editor is actually a commercial product. You can find ads for
  18. ME in issues of Dr. Dobb's Journal and Computer Languages.  So  what's
  19. it doing on the bulletin boards???
  20.                                   
  21.     In  keeping  with  my  philosophy  of providing low-cost, powerful
  22. products to the computing community,  I  priced  ME  at  $39.95.  Even
  23. though  ME  has  the  power of the higher priced commercial editors, I
  24. feel that $150 is way too much to pay for a tool which is a necessity.
  25. Unfortunately, the price is also too low for most distributors to make
  26. money on.

  28.     New York Word has already gathered a lot of interest from the good
  29. press in publications like PC  Magazine,  PC-SIG  Magazine,  FOGLIGHT,
  30. etc.  People  are  already  familiar  with its power and flexible user
  31. interface. A "kissin' cousin" of New  York  Word  for  the  programmer
  32. community  would certainly be welcome in the shareware world. Hence, I
  33. decided to release this version of ME as shareware.
  34.                                   
  35.     The version of ME that you have is not crippled in any way. It's a
  36. fully working version of the commercial product. It comes with on-line
  37. documentation, help files, and several  macros.  (You  can  even  save
  38. files with it!) So what's the catch?
  39.                                   
  40.     To  registered  users,  I offer several utilities that can be used
  41. with the editor. First and foremost, registered users  get  the  macro
  42. compiler.  If  you like the feel and the power of ME's macros, and you
  43. want to start writing your own, you  will  need  the  macro  compiler.
  44. Second,  I  will  send  registered  users a keyboard remapping program
  45. (with source  code).  This  is  helpful  if  you  want  to  remap  the
  46. keystrokes  to  be  the  same  as your favorite editor/word processor.
  47. Third, registered users are entitled to receive update notices,  phone
  48. support, etc. 
  49.                                   
  50.     Most  of  the  commercial  users  of ME have decided to go for the
  51. source code option. The source code  is  available  for  PERSONAL  USE
  52. only.  (We  have  other  arrangements for  corporate  users, OEM's and
  53. VAR's). We hope that if you like the way ME operates, you will go  for
  54. the source code option too.
